Truck Festival in Ganjaran, Gondanglegi, kab. Malang

Living in Ganjaran Village is a blessing for me because it leads me to side with unique society who leaves in Java but speaking in Madura. This village consists of half-blood descent between Java and Madura, and it’s caused the location quietly remote from another area so it makes its own unique characteristic among all. This village could be called as ‘Kota Santri’ because teen of Islamic boarding exists in this village which Madura’s migration in Kalimantan always takes his/her child to Islamic boarding in Ganjaran Village. While we know how faithful society here, we also must perceive that not all people has same faithful. Surely Ganjaran has the reverse.

Recent month, there is new habit from Ganjaran society to buy big size miniature truck. The truck is just a toy so it doesn’t load luggage as usual but it brings big sound speaker in its container. The sound speaker will be turned on and sing a song in high volume so their neighbor will be heard the song as well. It will do every time and there’s community of every people who has the miniature. For your information, people cannot easily buy the miniature as buying usual toy because the price is quiet expensive, cheapest truck costs Rp 800.000 until Rp 8.000.000 or more, depends on size, form, color, etc. Of course not all people can buy it if he/she doesn’t have excess money to set aside and buy the truck.


By the feeling of limited people which lucky to be able buying miniature truck, people in my village will buy the miniature if they think that they are rich and feel no matter to buy expensive thing. All rich people has ambition to buy the miniature as luxury as possible to keep the existence. It makes all people think ‘better truck is better finance position’. If they want to be called as rich so they must call the miniature truck designer to make customized truck which no one can have it as well. For your information, buying miniature truck automatically was done by the one who has the real truck as well. It doesn’t mean if people buy truck for toy so they don’t have big capacity to buy real truck. Yey, miniature truck is only bought by rich people.

This truck is the largest, it is possessed by the richest people in the village

The miniature truck will be more exist because the community of miniature truck lover makes festival to show each truck and the owner of truck will walk around village beside the truck by bringing the rope which is bundled to truck. Literally they just walk because it surely just miniature truck, not real truck as its function. In the festival, people around Ganjaran village will wait in front of their house and see the truck walks in cute way. Owner of miniature truck will pull truck with the rope as strong as possible because it’s really heavy considering it contains big storage battery to power big speaker, big speaker, and its own big wooden truck. Festival is the session for owner of biggest size miniature truck will pride its belonging and all villagers will gossip and judge he/she is the rich people in this village.

Such an entertainment for society

This festival is held by individual family, so after truck has walk around village, truck will stop in front of the organizer house and all truck will park. The organizer will give all participants of festival a beverage and the next agenda is a lottery prize for all participants. The prize is not given to the one who has big miniature truck, but it’s lottery for all people who has miniature truck and joining the event. Although the prize is not depend to the performance of truck, rich people will never feel that buying the most expensive inflict a financial less. Hmm surely it just about showing the stratification of society and all people want to be called as a family in the highest strata.

Hmm we cannot deny that all people want to catch the highest strata in society. It makes the economic theory run well by saying the want of people is unlimited. Whatever it is, economic has succeed to picture the condition of people that remote people as my village, people will always want to have everything under the ambition to  be called as holder of the highest strata.

Yuhuuu… Sintia prepares to buy miniature truck too!!!
